Negros island is not the easiest place for birding. There are few natural forests left and habitat destruction and hunting pressures continue. However spending most of my time on this island, birding 'at home' generated amazing sightings of often endemic and endangered species. Most of the pictures below were taken on the slopes of Mount Talinis near Dumaguete City, focus is on forest birds. Twin Lakes Balinsasayao Natural Park in particular protects a remaining tract of largely primary forest and is home to many endangered and range restricted species. Expect this page to continuously grow with time. Locations:
Twin Lakes (TL): protected area with primary dipterocarp forest, stronghold for otherwise rare and threatened species
Palimpinon Rd west of Twin Lakes (PR): primary and seconday forest, hunting pressure
Valencia-Apolong (VA): forested garden area and Casaroro valley
Liptong-Woodland (LW): manmade (Rene Vendiola) and protected forest in Bacong municipality south of Valencia
Mt. Talinis high altitude (MT): eastern side, >1200m
Basley coffeefarm (BC): coffee is grown underneath old trees forming a beautiful and bird rich environment, west of Dauin
Tambobo Bay (TB): partly forested hills around the bay
Siaton Rd (SR): mahagony forest along road to Mantiquil

In recent years classification of philippine birds has been extensively reworked resulting in multiple species splits and creating new endemics. The recently published field guide book 'birds of the philippines' by Desmond Allen is followed here.
